Sticker sellers price in guesses more than any craft — the sheet count wished-for, the ink ignored. The math below is the same math the calculator runs: the grid, the orientations, the honest division.
How many stickers fit on a sheet?
Grid arithmetic with honest edges: the printable width is the sheet minus both margins, each sticker occupies its size plus the gap, and the count is the floor — a sticker that almost fits does not fit. This page tries the layout both ways, because a 4×2 sticker packs differently than a 2×4, and reports the orientation that wins. Six 3-inch stickers on a letter sheet at a quarter-inch margin is the honest answer, not the eight that wishful measuring promises.
What does one sticker cost me?
Paper plus ink, divided by the real count. The paper is on your receipt. The ink is the number everyone skips because no honest default exists across printers — so make it once: divide a cartridge set's price by the sheets it actually printed, write it down, and it is yours forever. Forty-five cents of paper plus thirty of ink across six stickers is 13 cents each — which is the number your $4 sticker price should be standing on.
Why does the calculator rotate my sticker?
Because packing is not symmetric. A 4×2 sticker fits a letter sheet differently than a 2×4 — the margins and gaps interact with each dimension separately — and one orientation often yields a whole extra row. Cutting software does this automatically; the arithmetic here does the same so your per-sticker cost reflects the layout you would actually cut.
What about the cut margin and bleed?
They are your settings, front and center. Kiss-cut machines want breathing room between designs (the gap) and most cutters skip an edge zone (the margin) — but the right numbers depend on your machine and your nerve. The defaults — quarter-inch margin, eighth-inch gap — are common working numbers; tighten them and watch the count climb, at your own registration's risk.
